Capt. Steve Johnson was born in Marinette, WI, and moved to Pensacola in 1976 while he was in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Before starting his law enforcement career, Capt. Johnson was stationed with the U.S. Marines in San Diego, CA, and Camp Le June, N.C. He also was a drill instructor at Paris Island, S.C., and at the Pensacola Naval Air Station. Capt. Johnson has an Associate's of Science degree in Law Enforcement from Pensacola Junior College and a Bachelor's of Science in Criminal Justice from Troy State.
Prior law enforcement experience included serving as a police officer with the U.S. Department of Defense from 1978 - 1980.
The Pensacola Police Department hired him as an officer in September 1980. Among his assignments have been Uniform Patrol, TAC and Investigations. Before being promoted to captain and supervising the Administrative Technical Services Division (ATSD), he was a lieutenant in that division. He also has served as the department's Administrative Captain where his responsibilities included overseeing daily operations, Training and Personnel, and Budget & Planning.
Capt. Johnson currently supervises the Criminal Investigations Division, which includes Investigations, Crime Scene, Intelligence, Vice & Narcotics, and COPS.
